Although Siena does not have its own airport it is best approached using one of the two main airports in the Tuscany region. Pisa airport, the busiest in Tuscany and a major hub with flights to and from the main airports in the UK, France, Germany and the rest of Europe, is a little more than 80 miles from Siena on an easily followed route, while the smaller Florence airport is a more convenient destination being less than 50 miles distant and within an hour of the city. Drivers on both routes are advised that tolls may apply.

The beauty of Tuscany is perfectly exemplified in the city of Siena, which is home to many delightful old buildings and wonderfully unspoilt ancient streets.

The surrounding region houses many more beautiful towns that are easily reached using your hire car, such as Asciano, a short drive of 13miles away and worth a visit, and the quaint and unspoilt city of Pienza, less than 25 miles distant.

It should be remembered that Florence, the great Renaissance city, is just 50 miles from Siena, and really should be in any itinerary when visiting Tuscany.
